Scented Sweet Safety Tips

Candle Care: Stay Safe While You Enjoy Your Candles!

We want you to have a wonderful and safe experience with our candles. Keep in mind that, if left unattended, candles can pose safety risks. To ensure you enjoy your candle safely from the first burn to the last, please follow these guidelines:

Burning Your Candles Safely: Use a Holder

For candles that aren’t in jars, we recommend using a proper candle holder to ensure a safe and clean burn. Always place your candles on a sturdy surface and use a holder, plate with rimmed edges, or even a bowl to catch any dripping wax. This helps protect your surfaces from heat and ensures that melted wax stays contained. By using the right candle accessories, you can enjoy your candles with peace of mind and keep your space mess-free!

Before Lighting Your Candle:

  • Always trim the wick to about 5 mm (¼ inch) before each burn. This helps prevent uneven or fast burning, dripping, or flaring, while also promoting a steady flame, reducing soot, and enhancing the scent throw. A good wick trimmer will help you cleanly cut away the excess wick.
  • Place your candle in a safe area, away from anything flammable (such as furniture, papers, books, or curtains).
  • Ensure candles are kept out of reach of children, pets, or anything that could knock them over.

While Burning:

  • For safety, burn the candle for no more than 4 hours at a time.
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Never go to sleep with a candle still lit—this is a serious safety hazard.
  • To avoid overheating, stop burning the candle when about 10 mm (⅜ inch) of wax remains. The flame needs enough wax for a safe burn.
  • To get the best scent from your candle, limit drafts by keeping windows closed for at least the first 30 minutes of burning.
  • If the flame flickers or seems unstable, extinguish the candle, trim the wick, and then relight it. This ensures safe and proper burning.

After Extinguishing:

  • Always use a snuffer to put out the candle. Never pour water on it.
  • Double-check that the candle is fully extinguished, and the wick is no longer glowing before leaving the room.
  • Allow the candle to cool completely before touching or moving it.
  • Store your candles in a cool, dry, and dark place, away from direct sunlight.
  • Clean your candle jar if you plan to reuse it, as dust can accumulate easily.

By following these tips, you can enjoy your candles safely and make the most out of your beautiful fragrances!
